Detoxification
I used to conduct my own detoxification program 2 or 3 times every year. Some of you may put on a frowning look and ask what is detoxification program ? Why you need to do detox ? How to do detox ?
What is Detoxification ?
Defination from Wikipedia, Detox, short for detoxification, in general is the removal of toxic substances from the body.
Why Detoxification ?
Detoxification is for greater health. It can improve energy, resistance to disease, rejuvenate our skin, mental state as well as weight loss.
Who want Detoxification?
Basically, everyone of us.
What to eat for Detoxification ?
Juice fasting which consumes only vegetables and fruits juice. I have told by a nutritionist, theory behind the juice fasting is that less energy is expended on food digestion, more energy used for the body to expel toxins. Human body can recover and heal by itself from damages and this can also auto improve our immune system.
How long for Detoxification?
Usually 3 days, BUT this time I did only a day.
Pre-Detoxification ?
Reduce the food intake especially carbohydrate food such as rice, noodles, breads, sweets as well as meat intake for a week. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
On the day of -Detoxification ?
Vegetables and fruits juice + relax + discipline + drink more water.
Normally I like to buy celery, cucumber, tomato, carrots, green apples, lemon, bitter-gourd, water melon, papaya and spinach. It is very easy to prepare the juice what you have to do is to cut the fruits into small cubes and put into your blender and blend it ! That’s all. You can also add some honey into your juice too.
Post-Detoxification ?
Nutrition soup is the main meal after the fasting followed by slowly adding in food with carbohydrate within 1 week. Here is the nutrition soup that I cook.
Tomato + Onion + Carrots + Meat soup
Effective ?
YES definitely.
I noticed that my skin become smoother, more energetic and refreshing.
Important notes : Not everyone is suitable for doing this. If you want to try this program, you may get some advices from doctor or professional nutritionist.

keeyit || There are many types of detoxification you can try. Do the one that suitable for you will give you the best results.
Oooh, I use similar detox techniques, but it’s more spread out…like on a monthly cycle where 1-2 weeks I’ll slowly cut back on meats and focus more on vegs/fruits. I always try to keep up the same amount of water, as then it’s easier for my body to maintain the water weight for when I exercise. Plus, it does wonders for the complexion =)

keeyit || Oh ya.. if you are trying to gain weight then better do not try this. Hehe.. Milk or protein powder can help you to gain weight.
Yeah, I used to try detox. I even bought a set from those direct sale company which cost about RM1000 +. I was working then and since that lady selling it is one of my company’s client… I bought lor… I know, I angkat kaki only.
It’s good to know we can DIY and fast on juice.
I think I should try it…. to try flush those McD and KFC toxin out!
keeyit || Ohh.. I know that alot of people did the detoxification program with supplements. That is expensive le, may be effective.. You can try the juice fasting, is so easy to prepare.. BUT after you recover from you coughing first la.. Just that, you must be discipline hor. no KFC, no McD, no fast food for 2 week before and after the detox process.
I’ve been wanting to try it…actually I tried it for 2 days (ate salads/fruits). Maybe my method was wrong because I didn’t do the pre and post detoxification. I will try your way. Thanks.
keeyit || Ohh.. The whole process “pre-detox-post” is very important to succeed.
Detox is a relatively controversial thing lor. There hasn’t been any significant scientific articles that support the idea of detox.
I believe that our body is built to detox by itself and by cutting down a HUGE portion of carbohydrate is detrimental because our brain can only metabolise on carb. I think eating well, balanced diet is enough - no need for detox.
Nope, I am not a nutritionist but I did Metabolism as a topic, which is what nutritionist do.
We all need carb to function, and our meal should consist almost 60% of carb. Our body can use fat and protein and convert them to carb, but not our brain, unfortunately.
keeyit || Thanks for sharing. You got your points. Vegetables and fruits juice has the natural sugar which we called carbohydrates that needed for our body and our brain. That’s why the juice fasting can only do for maximum 3 days. After that we have to go back to normal meal slowly.

*Salute* I guess the most important point here is being discipline. And for people who doesn’t really like to eat veggie and fruits, it’s even harder to detox :p

keeyit || The whole process is 8 days. Pre-detox is 5 days, 1 day is detox, post-detox is 2 days.
I read before that juice is not totally good for health, but consuming it for 1 or 2 days should be ok. Should never substitute your main meal with juice, or otherwise you might lack of some nutrition. I dun take too much beans, they contain too much protein. Excessive protein might cause your kidney to work too hard. Just to share my thoughts here, hehe…
keeyit || yeah, I heard before too much of beans make our kidney has to work harder. But a bowl of beans soup should be ok la.. And we need to drink more water!

There was once when I only took a glass of orange juice in the morning. I had nothing for lunch and dinner for that day. Plain water was what I had. Interesting to see that I don’t feel hungry at all.

Been so long since my lemonade detox. It was refreshing although albeit painful during the process. I have no guts to try it again now, not in the middle of deadlines

When I lived in Brunei, some of my gfs did these detox things a lot. I don’t buy into things like it because I love food :). I believe our body has a build in mechanism where it detoxs itself as long as we don’t abuse it.
The way what works best for me are a combination of wholesome balance diet with small portion of meat, lots of veg, fruits, beans, nuts, omega rich fish such as Salmon , lots of whole grain wheat bread, whole grain pasta, brown rice, appropriate amount of exercise, relax lifestyle, good sex and fresh countries air. [ no dead lines, no traffic jam and no alarm clock but food and sex are 2 must that keep me young and energetic :):)].
I only use Olay cleanser, oil of ulan and baby Johnson bath and they have kept my 46years old face radiant and pretty, he he he he he :).
